GOAL = 750 points

10 points for each yoga or meditation class at SPY

30 points for each workshop or #iSPYcommunity event

Happy Knees, Healthy Knees with Guest Teacher Mon, Jun 5, 2017 at 7:15 pm - 9:30 pm
Healthy knees may be the key to longevity in your practice. Learn how to keep them safe and strong during an anatomy workshop with Army Physical Therapist and RYT 200, Katie Osterman. We will look at alignment in your poses and how to keep your knees happy throughout your practice. We will also discuss common injuries and modifications for knees on the mend.

It’s your turn! Treat yourself to a week-long immersion in yoga. During this week-long intensive, we’ll start our day with a yoga class or two and then spend the rest of the day studying postural alignment, anatomy, and yoga philosophy. This is a great chance to immerse yourself and dig deeper into your yoga.

Yoga 101: What is Yoga? with Kate Doran Sat, Jun 10, 2017 at 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Yoga is more than just breathing and stretching! In this workshop we will explore the origins of yoga and its role in modern life. We will start 5,000 years ago and trace Yoga’s steps into the 21st century. During this workshop we will watch some documentary footage and engage in a dialogue designed to unearth the depth and breadth of this ancient practice.

Dress comfortably. Bring a journal and a pen. No asana practice.

Yoga 101: Introduction to the Yoga Sutras with Kate Doran Wed, Jun 14, 2017 at 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
The Yoga Sutras by Patanjali provide the philosophical foundation for our practice of yoga. This concise collection of 196 aphorisms provides a roadmap to liberation from suffering. In this workshop we’ll look at the high level philosophical context of the Sutras and dial into the practical lessons of individual sutras, including a discussion of the 8 limbs of Yoga.

Recommended Reading: The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Translated by Swami Satchidananda

Yoga 101: Introduction to Breath and Bandhas with Kate Doran Fri, Jun 16, 2017 at 9:45 am - 11:30 am
The Breath feeds the body and soothes the nervous system during our power yoga practice. The Bandhas protect the physical body and manage the energetic flow of the practice. Join Kate for this workshop exploring Ujjayi Pranayama as well as other forms of yoga breathing. We will also look in depth at Uddiyana Bandha (belly lock) and Mula Bandha (root lock).
